Talking to a bot

A bot is an account somebody runs a program behind. It has a name, a description, and commands of its own.

Finding one

The directory under Settings → Bots lists the bots on this server and what each answers to. In a room with a bot, its commands join the / list.

What a bot hears

What invokes it — its own commands, and a message that mentions it — and nothing else, unless its owner switched it to hear the whole room, which the directory says. A bot in a direct message hears the message, since it was sent to it. Like any account, it reads only what was sealed to it.

Running one

Anyone with an account can make one under Settings → Bots and run the program on a machine of their own; the SDK is in the repository under bots/. The operator can stop a bot, reset its token or remove it.
