Ten minutes for an operator
You have run sudo bash deploy/bootstrap.sh and the page is up. Ten minutes, in order:
- Claim admin. The one-time token is in the server log and in
DATA_DIR/admin-token.txt; paste it under Settings → Become admin. - Name the place. Admin panel → Customization: the name, a logo, the colours; SEO for what a link preview shows.
- Decide who may join. Configuration → Registration: open, invite only, or closed; guests on or off under Features.
- Say what is on. Features: calls, files, stickers, bots, the language filters, the profile fields. Every switch says what off means.
- Set the floors. Configuration → Limits: connections, file size, the per-account quota, retention windows.
- Turn on the record. Sign-ins and the audit are on by default; set the security.txt contact under Pages so people know where to report a hole.
- Back it up. Backups: a policy, and one taken now.
- Read the dashboard once. So you know what normal looks like: Reading the dashboard.
- Learn three commands.
